Mermaid Cupcake Ingredients

This recipe only calls for a few ingredients and if you use a boxed cake mix for your cupcakes, this recipe is an absolute breeze!

6 Prepare Cupcakes (Purple Liners) from a boxed cake mix
1 Cup Green Chocolate Discs
1 Can Red Frosting
Mermaid Tail Silicone Mold

We usually like to make our favorite boxed cake mix for recipes like this. The kids really enjoy helping and by using a cake mix they can usually do all of the steps themselves. However, you can also pick up pre-made unfrosted cupcakes from your grocery store or local bakery.

If your store doesn’t carry red icing just make your own. Use a jar of white icing and a little bit of Wilton icing coloring.

Decorating Mermaid Cupcakes

In a microwaveable safe bowl, melt chocolate according to package directions.

Pour into each mold then spread with a knife over the top to remove any excess. Let harden for about 45 minutes to an hour.

Carefully pop each tail out of the mold. Pull and stretch the sides of the mold a little bit to help the chocolate loosen. If any break, take leftover melted chocolate and “glue” it back together.

Cupcake Decorating Ideas

Add frosting to a piping bag or baggie and snip the corner. Pipe frosting on each cupcake and add a tail in the center.
